NATO-nun keçmiş baş katibi Yaap de Hoop Sxeffer Rusiyanın “qırmızı xətt”lərinə hörmət göstərilməli olduğunu bildirib.

Sxefferin sözlərinə görə, ittifaqın Ukrayna və Gürcüstana üzvlük üçün söz verməsi Rusiya prezidenti Vladimir Putinin radikallaşmasına gətirib çıxarıb. O qeyd edib ki, NATO-nun sərhədlərini genişləndirməsi Rusiya liderini SSRİ dövründəki aqressiv mövqeyə qayıtmağa itələyib.
Hərbi alyansın keçmiş rəhbəri 2008-ci ildə (Sxeffer 2004-2009-ci illərdə ittifaqa rəhbərlik edib – red.) Rumıniyanın paytaxtı Buxarestdə keçirilən NATO sammitində Ukrayna və Gürcüstana üzvlük üçün yaşıl işıq yandırıldığını xatırladıb və Putinin ona “Hörmətli baş katib, belə bir şey ola bilməz və olmayacaq” şəklində xəbərdarlıq etdiyini deyib.
Sxeffer Putinin bu reaksiyasını anlayışla qarşılayıb. Lakin Almaniya kansleri Angela Merkelin də etiraz etməsinə baxmayaraq, dövrün ABŞ prezidenti kiçik Corc Buşun israrı ilə NATO-nun qapılarını Gürcüstan və Ukrayna üçün açmağa məcbur olub.
